Parish and School 65th & 60th Anniversary Celebration
From children to centenarians, our parish and school community came together last weekend with love and pride to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of St. Simon Parish and the 60th Anniversary of St. Simon Parish School.
School-aged children and staff showed their willingness to help fellow students (and have fun!) by walking hundreds of miles in the Walk-a-Thon to raise money for the St. Simon Endowment for Tuition Assistance.
Friend-raising Zoom events included Fr. Brendan & Katherine Pawlick’s Virtual Cooking Class and Mrs. Lipscomb & Mr. Miller’s Fun with Movement and Games. Sr. Rebecca and Kim Karmirantzos’ Tribute to St. Simon’s 65th Anniversary Zoom turned into a lively two-hour walk down memory lane as about 50 long-time parishioners dished about the pastors, parishioners and events of the past. A lot of these folks also went on camera to share their memories of the history of our parish (video link: Anniversary Tribute for St. Simon 65th Anniversary | Completed Tribute.)
We were honored to have Bishop Cantu preside over the well-attended and live-streamed Anniversary Mass. Father Brendan’s homily emphasized that after the difficult worldwide pandemic year, we are at a threshold of positive change if we accept the challenge for ourselves, our parish, our nation and our world.
By Tuesday morning, we reached our fundraising goal of $170,000! What an amazing achievement! Many, many thanks to all those who participated in and contributed to our Anniversary Celebration, showing that the pandemic has changed the way we gather to worship, but not our commitment to St. Simon and to each other.
